Research- industry/ civil society linkages

Task 5-1:

Science and technology desks purpose and justification: the purpose of this task is to facilitate and institutionalize research industry/ civil society linkages and support conducting of S&T projects and dissemination of the project results. Partnership with civil societies ensures that the work is taken forward in other fora to engage policy makers with respect to diplomacy and advocacy for IL friendly laws. The desks are in Egerton University, Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources and Obafemi Awolowo University. The aim is to make poverty alleviation a focus and enhance university research with community outreach.

Task 5-3: Science and technology internship programme purpose and justification: the purpose of this task is to provide young scientists and interested students with insight into application of STI in MIL in the industry and with practical work experience to enable them apply and adapt their theoretical knowledge. This facilitates research- industry exchange and diffusion of knowledge and experience. Through this task, the industry is provided with the opportunity to benefit from the expertise of the young scientists and students.

Task 5-4: Science mentorship programme purpose and justification: a strong interest in any area provides unequalled internal motivation and acts as a powerful driving force along the way of self-directed and independent learning. Along that inspired road, an encounter with a mentor can be the beginning of a rewarding lifelong learning experience.

Task 5-5: Mobile application purpose and justification: mobile communication has become the fastest and simplest mode of communication among the rural, including resource compromised persons. The mobile phone systems have shown tremendous growth in the past few years in the target countries. The development of a mobile application is built on this platform and based on the fact that through this system, information on S&T related to MIL and markets spread very fast. In addition, this system can be used to interlink the different stakeholders. The purpose of this task is to establish an easy to use mobile application that inter-links the different stakeholders in the MIL.
