The 1st World Congress on Innovations for Livestock Development (WCILD) dubbed “Fostering Innovations for the Livestock Industry” was held on 26th-30th of June 2016 at Sentrim Elementaita Lodge, Nakuru Kenya. The five day Congress had a total of 120 participants who were scientists, producers, policymakers, research organizations, universities and the labor industry all drawn from Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Niger, Zambia, Tanzania, Scotland, Uganda, Ethiopia, Colombia, The Netherlands, Rwanda, Italy and Denmark.
A total of 77 of both oral and poster presentations were made under the four Congress sub-themes which were; Sustainable production systems, Innovative input systems, Livestock marketing and agribusiness, and food quality and safety and Role of gender in enhancing innovations in the livestock industry.
The Congress was organized within the framework of the Strengthening Capacity for Participatory Management of Indigenous Livestock to Foster Agricultural Innovation in Eastern, Southern and Western Africa (iLINOVA) project with support from Japanese Society for Promotion of Science and The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
